Right, just realised something. A main reason why Im angry they cut it out.

When Harry was found to be alive, no one else reacted, other than Draco. Ron and Hermione just stood there smiling. Ginny just stood there, Neville just stood there, everyone he would count as friends just stood there. None of them tried to help, none of them gave their wand to him.

But Draco, the person he had fallen out with the most, even though Voldemort could have killed him, ran to Harry and gave him his wand.

YES. I had a lot of problems with the last film, but I feel this was my most major one. This was a big deal.

Pretty sure this did not happen in the book.

It didn’t happen in the book, but they did film this scene for the movie & ended up not using it. Honestly, if they had just kept to what actually did happen in the book (i.e. Slytherins that left came back with reinforcements to fight against Voldemort, led by Prof. Slughorn, according to JKR. They weren’t all evil scumbags who were sent to the dungeons by McGonagall, like in the movie), I would’ve been fine with them not including the Draco thing, but because they made all the Slytherins out to be evil in the movie, I feel like this scene needed to have been included to keep the idea— the point JKR was making w/ that battle— that it was all of Hogwarts, united, that defeated Voldemort… not just Harry and the Gryffindors w/ a few ‘puffs & ‘claws thrown in the mix, as it was in the movie.

Also, in case it isn’t obvious, I identify w/ Slytherin, & I highly resent the fact that they gave Slytherins nearly no redemption whatsoever in the movie except for the line about Snape from the epilogue— but, honestly, that just made it seem like Snape was an exception to the “all Slytherins are evil” rule rather than a “it’s our choices that make us good or evil- not the house you’re sorted into, or anything else out of your control,” which is what JKR meant it to be.

TL;DR: By ignoring other stuff that did happen in the book, and not including this scene, they really altered the point of the story, and that’s incredibly frustrating to me, because I love HP ‘cause of the story and what it says about humanity.

There’s been quite a bit of discussion about Enjolras’ sexuality, and a lot of arguing over which interpretation is The Right One According To Canon, which I think is rather silly because the same snippets of text can be used to defend contradictory claims. (Which are perhaps not so contradictory, as you will see.) To demonstrate, I’ve rounded up the bits I’ve seen cited the most frequently for one cause or another, and show how they can be interpreted to support readings of Enjolras as gay, bisexual or pansexual, and aromantic asexual.

Some things before we start:

I’ve chosen those three orientations because I’ve yet to see anybody insist he is heterosexual. I’m sure they’re out there, but generally, I think we can all agree that he’s queer.

I specify “aromantic asexual” because the two are not synonymous. One can experience romantic attraction without experiencing sexual attraction; the opposite is also true. Ergo, it is entirely possible to read Enjolras as asexual but also gay, or aromantic but also bisexual.

You’ll note that the mythological duos used as references for Grantaire and Enjolras (Orestes and Pylades, Achilles and Patroclus, etc.) are conspicuously absent. That’s because they come up in Grantaire’s narration rather than Enjolras’, so I feel that they’re more indicative of Grantaire and of Grantaire’s relationship towards Enjolras. (Plus, this thing already went longer than planned.)
